Engineer Your Future: Exploring Careers, Talent Pathways and Alumni Connections

The MSc Student Commons & Enrichment, together with HKUEAA, recently organised “Engineer Your Future: Careers, Talent Pathways and Alumni Connections”, bringing taught postgraduate students together with career professionals and alumni to explore career development opportunities in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.

The event featured insights into graduate career pathways, employment trends and career development opportunities from Ms Iris Lau, Student Advising Officer from CEDARS, followed by an introduction to Hong Kong’s talent admission schemes by Mr C.F. Wu, Senior Manager, Support Services, from Hong Kong Talent Engage, offering practical information for non-local graduates interested in pursuing their careers in the city.

A key highlight of the event was the alumni sharing session, where Ir Jacky Zhong, Mr Richard Yiu, Dr Miles Wen, and Dr Yi Wang shared their professional journeys and experiences across structural engineering, financial technology, entrepreneurship and technology commercialisation. Their diverse career paths offered students different perspectives on how an engineering background can open doors to a wide range of professional opportunities.

The event concluded with an interactive networking and breakout session, giving students the opportunity to engage directly with the alumni speakers, seek advice, ask questions and exchange ideas in a more informal setting.

Through career insights, real-life experiences and meaningful connections, we hope the event encouraged students to explore new possibilities and take their next steps with greater confidence.
